Specializing in anyone and everyone

Wow!  A hectic couple of classes with the little people as we prepare to act out one of the stories from the book next week.  I honestly don’t know how primary school teachers ever manage to get their students organised enough for a Christmas show or end of year party!  Hats off to them!

But then, it’s what they do.  They’re surrounded by these little people everyday and are attuned to their way of thinking, knowing exactly how to deal with them and their daily hiccups.  EFL teachers tend to teach a wide variety of ages and levels and are expected to jump quite happily from one environment to another with little time to mentally prepare themselves.

And it’s one of the things I love about the job!  That’s not to say I wouldn’t be happy teaching only adults, but I do love the variety that teaching English has to offer.superwoman

So, any time you’re doubting your capabilities as a teacher when the four-year-olds are crawling up the wall, remember that you don’t have to be good at everything all the time!
